AJ Styles brings out the best in Andrade “Cien” Almas

Since being called up to SmackDown, Almas has not done a whole lot. He’d had a couple of squash matches against local talent, and a less than exciting feud with Sin Cara that came to an end on the Extreme Rules Pre Show. This match against AJ Styles is exactly what Almas needed to put himself on the map on the WWE main roster.

This match was a very good back and forth with both guys getting in a good amount of offense. One of the bigger spots for Almas coming when AJ was hung in the tree of woe in the turnbuckle, with Almas hitting a double stomp to the chest of AJ, followed by running knees into the corner for a great near fall.

AJ had been working Almas’ leg for a lot of this match, which would lead to the finish of AJ eventually locking in the Calf Crusher for the submission victory. Styles has this great ability that very few people have where after any match he has, you’re always left wanting more.

For Almas, this was possibly a star making performance. He has now pushed the champion to the limit and can grow from this to hopefully challenge for the WWE Title at some point down the line. This whole thing showed how you can get someone over in defeat.
