5. Every Match Feels Like It Matters

Just as nothing is more exciting than watching a wrestling show where the crowd is going absolutely wild, nothing is more frustrating than watching a wrestling show where it’s difficult to care about the matches at hand. In Impact’s case, all of the matches on the Slammiversary 2018 card mean something, because there’s a story at play.

Let’s take a look at three examples:

Tessa Blanchard vs. Allie: Allie has taken it upon herself to be the vigilante of the Knockouts Division, and Tessa Blanchard wants to make a name for herself by bullying others. Simply put, the Bunny will not stand for this, and she wants to take the fight to Tessa.

LAX: King wants to control LAX, and he’s brought back Homicide and Hernandez to help him dethrone Konnan. But Santana and Ortiz have remained loyal to Konnan…for now, at least.

Eddie Edwards vs. Tommy Dreamer: Like Tommy Dreamer earlier in his career, Eddie Edwards completely lost himself in seeking revenge over Sami Callihan. He already beat Callihan in the blow-off to their feud, but he ended up becoming Callihan because he just couldn’t let it go. Dreamer tried to help him, but Edwards turned on Dreamer and even believes that Dreamer is sleeping with his wife. Edwards has lost himself, and now Dreamer is the one obsessed with ending Edwards in a hardcore match.

There’s a reason to tune in to all the matches on the card, because they will either be great wrestling matches or the ending of entertaining stories. In most cases, they’ll be both. It’s so important to be invested in a match, because the first step to having a great match is having a great story. Impact Wrestling clearly understands this, based on the way the PPV card has been set up.
