Slammiversary 2018 isn’t just an important night for Tessa Blanchard’s career. Knockout veteran Madison Rayne has the opportunity to win the championship for the sixth time. She’s been an anchor of the division since 2010. The former Queen of the Knockouts is set to do battle with another new face, Su Yung on Sunday.

A victory for Rayne could very well set up a potential passing of the torch to Blanchard. While there are many talented women on the roster capable of carrying the mantle, few possess the inherent star power that Tessa does. The narrative is already there too. The Impact rookie has lost on not one, but two occasions against the five-time champion. To paraphrase from another famous Carolinian, “to be the woman, you’ve got to beat the woman.”

Madison has been one of the women in the Knockouts division. Only Gail Kim and Angelina Love have held the championship more times. But she’s the last remaining women’s icon in Impact. It could make for a special Bound For Glory moment if Blanchard finally bests her nemesis and ends her Rayne as Queen of the Knockouts. Sorry. I had to.
