Slammiversary 2018: Ranking Each Match By Expected Quality
6. Johnny Impact vs. “Bone Soldier” Taiji Ishimori vs. Fenix vs. Rich Swann- Fatal Four-Way Match
If I were one to gamble, I would bet my entire savings on this match opening the show. I would win the wager, but sadly, I wouldn’t win that much money. Aside from a Johnny Impact promo on the go-home edition of Impact, this match has received no storyline support. None of the other participants got a chance to discuss the importance of this match. Of course, that won’t matter once these guys start flipping around.
Aside from the cool moves that all four men will pull off, I’m just not that interested in this match. Honestly, I’m more interested to know where Ishimori stands in the Elite vs. BC OG’s feud, but that’s for another time. I’m not even sure what the winner of this match gets.
It feels like the Impact bookers are sending these guys out there to get the crowd going with some highspots. That’s fine, and it should make for a fun match, but Impact has booked dozens of these matches before and they never lead to anything.
The four-way will be very enjoyable, but with more important matches featured up and down the card, this one might get lost in the shuffle. I hope I’m wrong.
