Slammiversary 2018: Ranking Each Match By Expected Quality
4. Madison Rayne vs. Su Yung- Impact Knockouts Championship Match
It’s a bit weird that Madison Rayne was given the “returning legend” role for her most recent run in the Knockouts division. I mean, she is a six-time Knockouts Champion, but I never saw Rayne as this legendary figure the same way that I see someone like Gail Kim or Awesome Kong. She isn’t even old; she’s only 32.
Anyway, the quality of this match will depend on how much time these women get. Rayne and Yung are both capable of having a standout match, but if they only have 8-10 minutes to work with, they won’t have a chance to flesh out a memorable story.
I also wonder how much hocus pocus we’ll get in this bout considering that’s been the main crux of the feud. It’s led to some hokey moments on Impact the last couple of weeks, so I hope that the bookers don’t get too cute with the extracurriculars and they allow Yung and Rayne to tell a good story in the ring.
If they are afforded that opportunity, I think that Yung and Rayne can have a great match. Hopefully, they get a chance to do so and won’t get bogged down by some overbooked nonsense.
