Slammiversary 2018: Ranking Each Match By Expected Quality

3. Matt Sydal vs. Brian Cage- X Division Championship Match

I really don’t have much to say about this match other than it’s gonna be great. I just hope that the crowd reacts a little better to this match than they did to the previous Cage/Sydal match.

I also hope that Kongo Kong doesn’t show up during this match, and not just because he looks like an indy wrestling promotion’s idea of a monster heel if all the other credible monster heels signed elsewhere. I want to see Sydal and Cage show what they can do in a match free from outside interference.

I’m curious to see how Cage, Sydal, and the agents lay out this match. Sydal is the heel here, even though the promo’s he has cut sound like babyface promo’s, but he’s also dwarfed by Cage in terms of size. They will probably portray Sydal as the crafty veteran who uses his savvy to get the heat on Cage.

Provided this remains a one-on-one encounter, Sydal and Cage could have one of the best matches on the show. Even though he’s a little older, Sydal is still one of the best highflyers in the industry and there is almost nothing that Cage can’t do in the ring. This one should be good.
