WWE Raw 5 Predictions: Stephanie McMahon’s Announcement
By Mark Justice
1. Stephanie McMahon Announces That Ronda Rousey vs. Alexa Bliss Will Main Event SummerSlam
Raw Commissioner Stephanie McMahon is coming to Raw tonight to deliver a historic announcement. Usually, when she has something to announce, it has something to do with the women’s division, such as the Women’s Royal Rumble announcement back in January. However, it could also have something to do with Raw GM Kurt Angle’s “terrible” management. Constable Corbin points this out in the video below from WWE’s YouTube page:
When Angle made the announcement that Rousey will battle Alexa Bliss for the Raw Women’s Title at SummerSlam, he did not make it the main event. Stephanie could potentially shock the world and make the Raw Women’s Championship match main event SummerSlam for the first time in history.
In 2016, Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair fought for the Raw Women’s Championship at Hell in a Cell in the main event, but that was Raw-exclusive and only featured half the company’s roster. At the Royal Rumble this year, the Women’s Royal Rumble Match was the main event, the first Big 4 (or 5) pay per view featured women in the main event.
But a one on one match in a co-branded pay per view main event? That would be a big deal. It’s also very rare that a women’s title match would be announced earlier than any other match, especially even Brock Lesnar’s Universal Title match, for a big PPV like SummerSlam.
Maybe there was a reason behind it being announced so early. Ronda Rousey has been the hottest attraction in the women’s division since entering center stage in the WWE, and Alexa Bliss is a 5x women’s champion and 1x MITB winner who has been rarely out of the title picture since her main roster debut. These two female athletes may not produce the 5 star match that we aspire to watch, but they do have the accolades, reputation, and strong booking that are needed for a main event match.
Next: Stephanie McMahon to Announce All-Women PPV?
Rousey has been continuously doubted for producing great matches with the likes of Stephanie McMahon and Nia Jax, and she has proven those critics wrong each time. I foresee her proving them wrong again with Alexa Bliss at SummerSlam. A women’s tag team division and/or an all women’s PPV are also plausible enough to be announced by Stephanie on WWE Raw, but there’s no doubt that the first ever women’s PPV main event on the main roster is historic.
