Impact Wrestling: 3 Potential Challengers for Brian Cage’s X Division Championship

1. Eddie Edwards
If you tuned into Slammiversary to watch the House of Hardcore match between Tommy Dreamer and a previously deranged Eddie Edwards, you’d know that after all the carnage that transpired during the match, Dreamer and Eddie seemingly set aside their differences, leaving Eddie with a sense vindication.
The “passing of the torch” from Dreamer appeared to give Eddie a gateway out of the Sami Callihan slump he’s been in, and with that clean slate, Eddie will be looking for different opportunities.
A run at the X Division Championship would be a great route for Eddie to take to get that same level of vindication from the Impact audience. Not to mention, it could also allow Cage to develop a mean streak and work on his chops as more of a heel, with Eddie on his way back into the light and all.
Would Eddie necessarily be the one who could actually dethrone Cage? Maybe not. It would certainly be a happy ending for Eddie, but with all the effort Impact has put into hyping Cage, it wouldn’t be the strongest way for him to go out, especially not as an early-reign defense. The story would certainly be convincing however; as I said before, a good next step for Cage would be to expand his character repertoire, and a heel program with Eddie Edwards could be a great starting point.
