NJPW G1 Climax 28 Night 8: Results, Review, Standings, Grades
Yoh & Jay White vs Tanga Loa & Bad Luck Fale
Surprisingly, Switchblade volunteers to start the match. However, unsurprisingly, he spends the first minute of the match running from Fale, only to tag in Yoh as soon as things get hairy.
Fale pulls Switchblade into the crowd and leaves him laying, while Loa beats up Yoh in the ring. Again, surprisingly, White returns and tries to save Yoh, but Fale plays defense as *ahem* “Apes**t” connects. The three count follows.
This was mediocre from an in-ring perspective. However, I appreciate the fact that the White/Yoh partnership provides a fairly interesting story development each time they tag together.
Rating: **3/4
David Finlay & Hiroshi Tanahashi vs Toa Henare & Togi Makabe
Is it bad that I wish Henare was competing in the G1 instead of Makabe? No? Okay good.
Anyways… Tanahashi and Makabe kick things off in the ring. The Ace gets a huge pop from the crowd for merely existing. What a legend. Tana immediately gets ahead and Makabe is forced to tag in Henare, who fairs a bit better. Makabe tags back in and does the wrestling.
Eventually, Henare and Finlay become the legal men and engage in some really solid back and forth. Finlay hits a nasty backbreaker, then Henare fights back and hits his flying shoulder tackle for a good near fall. Both of these guys are great. Finlay manages to hit the stunner out of nowhere to pick up the victory for his team.
Solid. Tana and Makabe didn’t do much, but their partners carried the match well.
