John Cena vs. The Undertaker
The Face That Runs The Place vs. The Phenom From Death Valley! Ever since he became a part timer, the “John Cena Wins LOL” meme does not even apply anymore. Over the course of 365 days, Cena’s PPV win-loss record has been atrocious. After returning to the SmackDown brand to defeat Rusev at Battleground 2017 in a flag match and Baron Corbin at SummerSlam 2017, he went on a significant losing streak on his road to WrestleMania 34.
Since Cena is a free agent and can bounce back and forth from Raw and SmackDown, he transitioned back to Raw to lose to Roman Reigns at No Mercy after failing to defeat him with four Attitude Adjustments. He then inserted himself into the Royal Rumble and got eliminated by Shinsuke Nakamura, who was the winner of that Royal Rumble.
He proceeded to qualify for the first ever 7-men Elimination Chamber’s match with Roman Reigns, Braun Strowman, Seth Rollins, Finn Bálor, The Miz, and Elias in order to determine the next contender for Brock Lesnar’s Universal Title at WrestleMania, but he lost that too after getting eliminated by Braun Strowman.
He had one last gasp of hope for a 17th world title when he transitioned back to SmackDown to join a six-pack WWE Championship match against AJ Styles, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Baron Corbin, and Dolph Ziggler, in which he lost again after getting pinned by the WWE Champion AJ Styles. Cena tried everything in his power and abilities to earn a trip to WrestleMania, but he failed to do so every single time. Since he was not involved in any particular feud and could not win a championship title, he called out The Undertaker, who is expected to be in every year’s WrestleMania.
However, there was some mystery behind Undertaker showing up at WrestleMania 34 since the majority of WWE fans assumed that he retired after losing to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 33. Nevertheless, Cena remained consistent and called out The Phenom week after week to get his attention and persuade him as much as he could to show up and fight. The Undertaker shockingly made an “impromptu” return at WrestleMania 34 to answer John Cena’s challenge, and he squashed him.
He was squashed since he was not prepared or in the appropriate mind-set to battle The Phenom. Now, he desperately needs a win at this year’s SummerSlam to obtain redemption from said squash. I foresee Cena getting an impromptu rematch against The Deadman at SummerSlam, where he should win to gain back some much needed momentum. As for Undertaker, he will have to REST IN PEACE!
