NJPW G1 Climax 28 Night 11: Results, Review, Standings, Grades
EVIL vs Minoru Suzuki
These two masochistic weirdos start throwing hands before the bell even rings. Suzuki gets ahead and leaves EVIL laying outside the ring. He goes for the countout victory, but EVIL just barely makes the twenty count. Suzuki is all over him again. Each time EVIL gets an opening, his opponent shuts the door on him with stiff, sadistic offense. The King of Darkness mounts one final push at the end and nearly hits EVERYTHING, but he’s just taken too much damage to capitalize. The sleeper and GSP finishes it, proving that Suzuki is somehow more evil than EVIL itself.
These are two of the greatest brawlers in all of professional wrestling, and it showed here. This was a lot of fun, and didn’t overstay its welcome. I would’ve liked a bit more drama at the end of the match, but the high impact nature of the match made the quick, abrupt finish feel appropriate. Suzuki is getting older and starting to slow down some, but he’s great at accentuating his strengths and making the most of every situation.
Rating: ***3/4

Hiroshi Tanahashi vs Yoshi-Hashi
This was the first clean, traditional wrestling match of the night. They go back and forth for a while with neither man gaining a clear advantage. Eventually, Tana starts hitting some of his signature offense and gaining momentum. Hashi fights back but The Ace isn’t having it. He goes up for the High Fly Flow, but it misses. Yoshi starts running off some big moves and gets some great near falls, but Tana won’t stay down and eventually catches him with a cradle.
This was a good change of pace from the first three block matches. It was fun and light. They really made it seem like Yoshi-Hashi could win, and I enjoyed the finish.
