A feud between Neville and Cedric Alexander would build stock in both wrestlers and the WWE cruiserweight division as a whole.
The practice of fantasy booking creates enjoyable debates about the matches and feud that could happen, but it’s rare when there’s an outcome that has potential occurring sooner rather than later. In recent weeks, the idea of a program between current WWE cruiserweight champion Cedric Alexander and former champion Neville has continued to gain steam.
When looking at what both men have been able to do in the ring, it’s clear that this is a feud that should happen at some point in the near future.
A few days ago Neville and Alexander were suddenly linked in a series of tweets. A WWE fan named Jay Alletto wrote a post that presents the idea that now would be a perfect time for Neville to return to action. It was this post that Alexander would take offense to and responded in rather curt fashion.
He would continue that back and forth in subsequent posts that push the trend of blurring reality and character in professional wrestling. But what if they could find a way into the ring together?
On one hand there’s Neville. He was last seen in the WWE in October of last year. After losing a series of matches to Enzo Amore, Neville reportedly stormed out of the WWE has not been seen or heard from since.
The Twitter profile linked to that character has not made a post since September of 2017 and he’s been quiet across the wrestling scene. This two-time cruiserweight champion carried that division before the start of the 205 Live show and was the most captivating aspect of that group for a long time.
Alexander, on the other hand, has been champion since WrestleMania 34. His reign has seen some great matches against the likes of Mustafa Ali, Hideo Itami and Buddy Murphy. But despite each of those matches, he’s missing the one key feud that’s helped him grow into a champion that the fans clamor to see.
Alexander doesn’t feel like the focal point of 205 Live content every week and as champion, he should be. This is where a potential feud between Neville and Alexander would help elevate Alexander and the cruiserweight brand at the same time.

The heel version of Neville was a character that didn’t get the praise that he deserved. He was a perfect mix of the fighting champion that stuck it to his opponents and fans at the same time.
From the way he grew out his beard to look more menacing, to the way that he changed up his move set to match his “darker” tone – all of that showed how committed he was to the character. That change turned Neville into the rare heel challenger that would garner boos from fans in a time where many of the heels get more cheers than the babyfaces.
That charisma would be key to this storyline. Alexander can put on fantastic matches with any of his peers on the roster, but it’s hard to say that he has the same level of charisma to tell an intriguing story. Pairing him with Neville and pushing the story that the “King of the Cruiserweights” is back to regain his throne is a storyline that could carry months of programming for 205 Live.
One of the major issues when Neville was champion is that the cruiserweights were not getting enough time to develop characters and stories. With a new show dedicated to just their division, there’s an opportunity for them to change that narrative and put these two center stage.
The question is whether or not the WWE can convince Neville to return. There has been very little conversation about his return and instead it seems like he’s waiting out his contract to pursue other opportunities. Neville took his character and career very seriously, as he was not willing to accept a diminished role to Amore.
If the WWE can convince him to return for a feature slot amongst the cruiserweights, fans would be treated to a great feud between Neville and the current champion, Alexander.
