Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre (w/ Dolph Ziggler)
Result: Seth Rollins defeated Drew McIntyre via disqualification
Rating: 3.25 out of 5 stars
Well, this got interesting in a hurry. You had to know things were going to be intense in this match, but a slingshot into the steel beams supporting the ring? Drew, you’re a maniac, man.
The only complaint I have regarding this match? Too much during the commercial break. Most of the writers here at Daily DDT talk shop on our Slack channel, and Josiah McDonald pointed out that pay per view matches seem to be building towards matches on Raw and SmackDown instead of the other way around. He’s right, but the production kills it by having the commercial eat up so much of the early going.
But here’s Rollins and McIntyre, practically killing each other in the minute before the commercial, and then it’s the finish sequence of the match already. To put it into perspective, Bálor and Corbin got about twice the amount of time for their match earlier in the night. (Told you that one went a little too long for its own good.)
And it’s frustrating, because even though Corbin and Bálor were good early on, this one was much better. But with half the time and a DQ finish thanks to the magnificently coiffed Dolph Ziggler (seriously, that straightened mane looked oddly satisfying), this match doesn’t get to the heights it should.
Oh Look, Another Senseless Authority Move!
While Brock Lesnar is reading magazines, Roman Reigns is watching TED Talks on his tablet. But he’s gotta stop, because Stephanie McMahon ordered Kurt Angle to remove Reigns from the building. You know, even though Reigns and Lesnar have been in the same building for well over two hours without incident.
It’s just the latest in a long line of illogical decisions made by a heel authority figure to look like they’re inconveniencing the conquering hero. I mean, this is straight out of the Vince/Stone Cold playbook, but the situations are totally different. WWE is committed to using the same old stories all the time, whether it makes sense or not.
