WWE SummerSlam 2018: Kevin Owens Is The Real Dark Horse
By Tom Thomas
With WWE SummerSlam 2018 right around the corner, here is a look at why Kevin Owens might be one of the biggest names to watch out for.
The WWE Universe is looking forward to one of the big four PPVs in the coming weeks. SummerSlam 2018 will hit us on August 19 and the show can already boast a stacked card. Samoa Joe and AJ Styles will square off for the WWE title in SmackDown Live‘s main event. Representing Raw, Roman Reigns will finally get what could be his last shot to attempt to dethrone Brock Lesnar.
A lot of speculations has been floating around with regard to this match. A lot of people expect Reigns to finally win the Universal title back and some even predict Braun Strowman to cash-in on Reigns. Whereas some other fans still expect Brock to retain but have Strowman cash-in on him. From a storyline perspective, this will allow Braun to remain as a babyface and Reigns can perhaps continue along a path of self-doubt and rediscovery. Our own TBK predicts this scenario to pan out at SummerSlam.
Regardless of who fans want to win at SummerSlam, a majority of the WWE universe expects Braun Strowman to cash-in on the winner by the end of the night. It was an unquestionable booking decision that made much sense too. However, a sudden development from last week’s Raw has given room for even more speculation.
Following weeks of attacks and assault at the hands of the Monster Among Men, Kevin Owens has requested match with him at SummerSlam. However, here’s the catch – if Owens wins in any manner, including a count out or a disqualification, then he will also win the Money in the Bank contract which is now in Strowman’s possession. This means if Strowman decides to teach Owens a lesson at the expense of losing the match, like he did at Extreme Rules, Owens will end up winning the coveted briefcase.

What if KO does the unthinkable and actually manages to win the match against Strowman? This is exactly in line with his sneaky opportunistic heel character, whereas the recent weeks he has been made to look sympathetic in front of the audience. If anything, Owens has come out looking like a man trying to provide for his family in recent weeks, and Strowman is flirting more and more with his babyface persona.
KO can win the said match in a number of ways. He can have Strowman barge into the referee, there by invoking a DQ or even have someone interfere on his behalf. If only Sami Zayn was still around to just punch KO in the face and give him the win by DQ and then celebrate vehemently with him in the ring.
Assuming that KO does indeed win the match and the contract, Strowman would beat the living hell out of him. Unless Owens has yet another backup plan to outsmart the Monster Among Men. What if he manages to lock Strowman in a production truck or anything? What if Owens gives the impression that he has left the building, escaping the wrath of Strowman.
Then, when the time comes for the main event and as Reigns/Lesnar has won in the end of a gruesome hard-fought battle, Owens can show up and cash-in. An angry Braun Strowman, trying to escape from wherever he is locked in, to get his hands on Owens would add more drama to all this.
What are your thoughts on this? Do you think there is any chance of Owens holding the Universal title by the end of the night on August 19th? Or do you think he would merely be fed to Strowman for some cheap laughs and comedy once again?
