6. Falling to Goldberg, Survivor Series 2016

One of the black marks against Brock Lesnar’s career in WWE had always been his dire match against Goldberg at WrestleMania XX. As it was common knowledge that both men would be leaving the company following the match, the crowd turned on the two competitors and seriously affected the flow of the match. Frustrated by the hostility of the audience, both men floundered their way through a dreadful match. The only saving grace were the stunner’s delivered to both men by guest referee, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, at the end of proceedings.

The two veterans were offered a chance at redemption as they entered into a feud 12 years later. The first match in their series was to main event the 2016 edition of Survivor Series. Goldberg hadn’t wrestled for over a decade and, despite being in incredible shape, many onlookers doubted his ability to perform in a match of this magnitude. Further to this, Lesnar had been booked as such an irresistible force, it seemed that the result of the match would be a foregone conclusion.

Despite all of the questions surrounding the match, WWE pulled off one of the greatest swerves in recent memory. Goldberg defeated Lesnar in only 96 seconds and shocked the world. It has been claimed that Lesnar is notoriously difficult to work with, but in this instance, he showed his willingness to do the job to ensure the most shocking and powerful outcome for the fans.
