14. Feud with Hulk Hogan, 2002
After his startling debut, Brock Lesnar’s had the proverbial rocket strapped to his back and within 3 months, he had won the “King of the Ring” tournament thus earning a shot at the WWE Undisputed Championship. During this time, Lesnar moved to the SmackDown brand and entered into a feud with the ageing icon, Hulk Hogan, with the young superstar’s number one contender status on the line.
The two met on an episode of SmackDown in August 2002 and while it will certainly not be remembered as a wrestling masterclass, it was notable for the way in which Hogan put over the young upstart. Notoriously self-serving as a performer, Hogan on this occasion, allowed for a scenario where he was absolutely decimated by Lesnar.
Despite the Hulkster’s best efforts, Brock dropped the legend with an F-5 before rendering Hogan unconscious via a crushing bear hug. Refusing to release the hold after the match ended, Lesnar truly underlined his status as the most dominating and intimidating heel on the entire roster.
Only 5 months into his WWE career, Lesnar had already earned a world title shot and had annihilated an icon. Next up was the chance to headline the biggest event of the summer.
