1. Charlotte Flair vs. Carmella

The rise of Carmella as SmackDown Women’s Champion initially came courtesy of Charlotte Flair when Carmella cashed in her Money in the Bank to capture the gold.  And after she beat Charlotte at Backlash in her rematch for the title, Carmella thought she had gotten past the Charlotte roadblock for good.

However, The Queen had other ideas last night when she made her return to help her friend Becky Lynch, who was being attacked by Carmella in the night’s opening segment.  GM Paige was impressed and she made a match between Carmella and Charlotte in the main event last night with high SummerSlam stakes on the line.

If Charlotte beat Carmella in said match, she would join the SmackDown Women’s Championship match at SummerSlam and it would become a Triple Threat Match.  The Queen and The Princess Of Staten Island would put on a solid match that saw Carmella look impressive against arguably the best women’s competitor in the WWE.

But the champion’s over-zealousness ended up dooming her and her attempt at locking in the Figure Four on Charlotte was countered into an eventual Figure Eight, which made Carmella tap out.  Charlotte will be in the championship match at SummerSlam and apparently, that’s much to the chagrin of The Irish Lass Kicker who watched nervously backstage knowing her odds of winning would decrease if Charlotte won.

The SmackDown Women’s Championship scene is really heating up heading into SummerSlam, but as far as Charlotte vs. Carmella went last night, it was a solid match that saw The Queen get one step closer to gaining back her throne.
