NJPW: Tetsuya Naito vs. Tomohiro Ishii

This won’t be the last time Tetsuya Naito ends up on July’s list, and it certainly isn’t the first time I’ve praised one of Tomohiro Ishii’s G1 matches either. These are arguably two of the ten best wrestlers on the planet, and both men have been operating at an elite level for years. So when they met in the G1 tournament, you knew sparks were about to fly.

Naito always brings his best at the G1, which isn’t a surprise seeing as how he won the tournament last year. The finish of this match was excellent, with Naito countering Ishii’s finisher into a Destino. Although Ishii kicked out, he couldn’t stay in the match after being hit with another Destino, allowing Naito to pick up a hard-fought victory. The leader of LIJ showed great resiliency and tranquility in order to win here, because Ishii threw everything he had at him.

NXT: Kairi Sane Is Your No. 1 Contender

Unfortunately, Bianca Belair was unable to participate in the No. 1 Contender’s match for the NXT Women’s Championship, turning a Fatal Four-Way match into a Triple Threat match. Although Nikki Cross and Candice LeRae proved to be formidable opponents, Kairi Sane wasn’t going to be denied the opportunity to face Shayna Baszler for a second time.

This was one of the most exciting matches in WWE this month, as the company continues to deliver with its Triple Threat matches. Sane won by hitting her flying elbow drop on both LeRae and Cross, punching her ticket to NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV. She’s already beaten Baszler on the big stage before, and after outlasting two of the best women’s wrestlers in the world, Sane seems poised to get the better of Baszler again.
