NJPW: Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Kota Ibushi

Zack Sabre Jr. has always been one of the most accomplished grapplers in the world, but it wasn’t until his tremendous performance in this year’s New Japan Cup when the world got to see just how far he’s come. Legitimately one of the best in the world, Sabre Jr. has the verbal skills to go with his in-ring prowess, with the latter being on display in his G1 Climax bout against Kota Ibushi.

Another wrestler having a magical 2018, Ibushi pulled out the victory here in a match that could have easily gone either way. Right there with Goto vs. Ishii and Naito vs. Omega as the best match of the G1 at the time of me writing this, ZSJ and Ibushi delivered in every way imaginable. This was a classic featuring two of wrestling’s best young talents and best overall story-tellers.

205 Live: Mustafa Ali vs. Buddy Murphy

There aren’t many stipulations I enjoy watching more than “No Disqualification” matches on a brand that Triple H is booking. He really lets the wrestlers go out there and enjoy themselves, and we got to see the creative brilliance of both Mustafa Ali and Buddy Murphy here. These two have been the best wrestlers on 205 Live, with all due respect to the talented Cruiserweight Champion Cedric Alexander, and this was an example of what 205 is capable of.

I’m still in awe at how scary some of the spots in this match were, and when people criticize WWE for being too toned-down, I like to point them to this match now. If you are willing to look past the Raw highlights on YouTube, you’ll find some brilliant wrestling in WWE. Murphy, in particular, has dazzled in 2018, and I’d put him right there with Seth Rollins as an MVP candidate for the promotion this year.
