NXT: The Undisputed Era vs. Moustache Mountain
If someone asks you why Tyler Bate and Trent Seven are so lauded as a tag team, please direct them to this match. While Dave Meltzer’s five-star rating for this match is disputable, the Undisputed Era’s mercilessness and technical wrestling ability are not.
But beyond the excellent wrestling in this match, the real story here was the tight friendship between Seven and Bate. With Seven trapped inside the ring and Kyle O’Reilly tearing at his knee with unforgiving strength, Bate was forced to look on as his tag team partner refused to give up, regardless of the damage being done.
Bate stood there, almost on the verge of tears and with a towel in his hands. As he and Seven held out for what seemed like an hour (though it was only a matter of minutes), Bate finally couldn’t bear to watch any longer. Having already used up his one save to rescue the NXT Tag Team Championships from the ruthless pairing of Roderick Strong and O’Reilly, Bate finally threw in the towel to cause a title change.
WWE: Zelina Vega Confronts AJ Styles
There is little doubt in my mind that Zelina Vega has entrenched herself as one of the elite managers in professional wrestling right now, and the fact that she can wrestle (Vega has a mean headscissors) only adds to the amount of danger Andrade “Cien” Almas’s opponents face in a given match.
A shrewd and cold business associate to Almas, Vega knows exactly how to get what she wants. Prior to an episode of SmackDown Live, Vega confronted WWE Champion AJ Styles, who was fresh off of a successful title defense against Rusev at Extreme Rules.
Vega demanded a match against Styles that night, and Styles accepted. Although it was a non-title match that Styles won, Vega’s cunning and determination gave her client a chance to shine, and it also got the fans hyped up for a dream match. This planted a seed for more interactions involving Vega, Styles, and Almas in the future, and rest assured, Vega will have her way sooner rather than later.
