WWE Announces First All-Women’s PPV
Most fans expected WWE to announce the first ever all-women’s PPV on the July 23rd episode of Monday Night Raw, and that’s exactly what Stephanie McMahon, Triple H, and Vince McMahon did. “Evolution” will air on October 28 as a WWE Network exclusive, emanating from the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island, New York.
This has been a long time coming, and it will be exciting to see the legends of the past and stars the present clash in a celebration of women’s wrestling in WWE. Five years ago, some of us wouldn’t have been sure if this day would ever come, so this was a special moment for all the women on the WWE roster and all the fans of women’s wrestling.
ROH: Alex Shelley Announces His Retirement
The Motor City Machine Guns will forever be remembered as one of the best tag teams of the last decade, as Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin dazzled wrestling fans with their in-ring chops for years. After Ring of Honor’s Honor For All Pay Per View, Shelley announced his retirement from professional wrestling, ending the career of a man who as a former Tag Team Champion in TNA and ROH, as well as a former X Division Champion.
Shelley’s final match came this year at the ROH/NJPW War of the Worlds show in Dearborn, Michigan, when MCMG faced the Young Bucks and Roppongi 3K in a Tag Team Triple Threat. Looking back, it was fitting for that to be Shelley’s last match and the last match for MCMG, as they faced off against two of the most accomplished tag teams today.
This wasn’t necessarily a “great” moment, but Shelley deserves at least this nod for an incredible career. I wish him the best of luck with his wrestling school, and hopefully we’ll get a chance to write a full feature about his influence on tag team wrestling and the X Division.
