3. Carmella retains the title, Becky turns on Charlotte.

Becky Lynch finally earned her shot at the SmackDown Live Women’s title after waiting more than a year. The opportunity came at the right time as well, as Lynch has been picking up signature wins in the past weeks and has been red-hot heading into SummerSlam. This week, after the match was made official, the Women’s champion Carmella would confront her challenger.

When things turned ugly and the former Mrs Money in the Bank tried to take out Lynch, Becky’s best friend and former Women’s Champion Charlotte would make her return to the ring to make the save. However, what went afterwards defied all logic as Paige made a match out of the blue between Carmella and Charlotte. The decision to have the match was okay, but the stakes that were added ridiculed all the hard work that Lynch had put in so far.

If Charlotte won, it would mean that she would be added to the title match at SummerSlam, making it a triple threat and essentially hurting Becky’s odds of winning the title. There must be some reason for this sudden development. Creative has been invested in Becky’s fight to reclaim glory all through the summer. I don’t see them dropping the ball on this just because Charlotte has returned.

Could long-term plans be on the works for a program between the two best friends? The seeds could be planted during the build to SummerSlam and during the match itself. This could result in Carmella getting away with another cheap win and extending the shelf life of her title reign. As a result, Becky would snap and take out her frustration on her (former) best friend.

If the cards are laid out right, this can become a red-hot feud that can culminate at WrestleMania with perhaps the Women’s title on the line.
