4: It’s now or never

While there are many fans who bemoan the fact that Roman Reigns is headlining yet another PPV this year, this really does feel like his last chance at dethroning Lesnar.

Reigns has lost twice this year to Lesnar, and a third successive defeat would effectively end his chances of becoming Universal Champion.

Reigns’ defeat at The Greatest Battle Royal was controversial and left the big dog with an excuse to go after Lesnar, but his defeat at WrestleMania was definitive.

If Reigns eats another clean fall at SummerSlam, then his days as a competitor to Lesnar’s belt are finished with.

While this idea may appeal to portions of the WWE fanbase, with Reigns out of the picture, there is literally nobody left on the roster for Lesnar to face.

He has already defeated Braun Strowman, and an opportunistic cash-in from the monster among men would probably damage his credibility, while the likes of Seth Rollins and Finn Balor no longer feel built up enough to challenge Brock for the belt.

Lashley is an option, but his character has flopped hard since his return, and while some fans would welcome him winning more than Reigns, at least Reigns manages to get a reaction from the crowd, as opposed to Lashley, whose arrival is often met with indifference.
