Dolph Ziggler & Drew McIntyre vs. Seth Rollins

Result: Dolph Ziggler & Drew McIntyre defeated Seth Rollins via pinfall

Rating: 3.0 out of 5 stars

This was one of the better handicap matches WWE has booked in quite some time, right up until everyone lost track of who the legal man was at the end of the match.

Up until then, though, it was laid out perfectly. Too often lately, WWE puts one heel in a handicap match against two babyfaces as some sort of punishment, and it makes no sense. Here, though, one babyface fought valiantly against the odds against two ruthless heels, which is the only logical way to do a handicap match and further a story.

The whole back and forth between Ziggler and McIntyre really worked to everyone’s advantage, as Rollins did everything in his power to stay alive. When he got his opening, he ran with it, ultimately coming within inches of winning the match. But a blind tag put him at another disadvantage, and that’s when everything went off the rails.

I get the point they were going for — Rollins needs help, has none, and until he gets some, he can’t beat Ziggler. But the ending was so overbooked with that concept in mind that the match got messy, and the “controversy” clouds the purpose of the match. If you want Rollins to be the underdog, fine. You want him to lose because of it? Sure, I can buy that.

But at the very least, don’t just skip out on making it make sense. Sometimes less is more, you know?
