If This Turns Out to be a Big Ruse, I Swear to God
Paul Heyman sits down with Renee Young to discuss what happened with Brock Lesnar last week. And Heyman is nothing like the bombastic individual the WWE Universe is used to seeing. This Heyman is despondent, dejected, and morose. There’s no energy, no pep, no passion. All we see are tears, all we hear is sadness.
It’s possibly the best work Heyman has done in his WWE career.
Think about it: Heyman made his name by always being louder than everyone else in the room. From WCW, to ECW, to WWF, to WWE, Paul has always been the larger than life, over the top caricature of a wise guy New Yorker. I don’t think anyone has ever seen the man speak at a volume you couldn’t call “stop yelling.”
But after his supposed friend not only told him he wasn’t actually a friend, he suffered a physical attack at said “friend’s” hands. The man is broken and beaten. But he knows exactly what’s going through this “friend’s” head, and he’s still out there putting his client — or former client — over.
Any time a performer shows a different side of themselves, it’s notable. When a heavy metal band slows things down, or a dramatic actor stars in a comedy, it makes you notice how well-rounded they are. Heyman absolutely killed it tonight, and now I really need to see Lesnar vs. Reigns.
