Report: WWE Officials Impressed With Renee Young On Commentary
By Kyle Boris
Renee Young was the first woman to call an entire episode of Monday Night Raw, and if the audience could have it their way, she’d probably have the role permanently.
It was no surprise that Young felt like she belonged when she joined Michael Cole and Corey Graves behind the desk. She has worn many hats during her tenure with the WWE, including being the host of Talking Smack, hosting multiple programs on the network, and leading the way on the kick-off panels. After succeeding at every stop, it was only fitting to have her shine under the brightest lights on Monday Night Raw.
With all that being said, it doesn’t look like she will be taking the reigns away from Jonathan Coachman just yet. According to Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, WWE officials were happy with the first-timer’s performance, but as of right now, there are no plans to remove her from her current position.
But, that’s not to say she did not catch the eyes of her peers. Michael Cole was right alongside her for the entirety of her debut night, and he was sure to head to Twitter to let the WWE Universe know how he thought her performance played out.
WWE.com also caught up with Young after her first night on the Raw announce team and it sounds like she felt right at home calling the action in front of a live audience. She would explain that, “Most of the stuff I did out there…99.9% felt truly authentic to me and they were my genuine reactions to me.”
Her authenticity brought a new perspective to the broadcast team, one that has certainly been missing. It’s unfortunate that it’s looking like fans will not get to hear Renee call matches on Raw or SmackDown in the immediate future, but that might not be such a bad thing.
Fans are itching for more of Renee Young and even though she won’t be calling matches on the red or blue brands, she will be at this year’s Mae Young Classic .
This year’s event will air on the WWE Network on September 5th at 9 p.m. ET and Renee Young will be joining Michael Cole and WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix on the call. It will gives fans another chance to listen to the unique insights that she has to offer, while also giving WWE officials another opportunity to see what she can bring to the table.
It’s obvious that Young is making quite the impression, and it might only be a matter of time before we start to see more and more of her on our televisions. As The Wrestling Sheet reported, Young could be looked at for future opportunities. Now, we just wait and continue to watch her impress us no matter the platform.
