Just days before SummerSlam, Dean Ambrose returned to WWE Raw in a big way. What do our power rankings look like heading into the Biggest Party of the Summer?

On the final episode of WWE Raw before SummerSlam, Roman Reigns was the victim of a ruse, a beatdown, and regressive booking all in one. But the rest of The Shield is in good shape heading into Brooklyn, as Dean Ambrose returned to help Seth Rollins fend off Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler. But there’s so much more to talk about before SummerSlam.

Every week after Raw, we’ll take a look at the roster to find out who is in the best position moving forward. But, much like the creative team, we’re not paying attention to wins and losses only. They matter a bit, but a strong loss is better than a lousy win, at least as far as I’m concerned.

Championships? They have their place, but just because a particular superstar has a heavy piece of gold around their waste doesn’t guarantee them a spot at the top. And if a superstars doesn’t have a match, they can still move up or down based on what they did in a given week.

So what does contribute to our rankings? Long term potential is key — how is a superstar’s position today leading to tomorrow? The past helps, too — just because someone has a big win one week doesn’t negate 17 weeks of losses before that. Think of ESPN’s NFL power rankings, where a 5-3 team could be ranked higher than a 6-2 team.

Let’s take a look at the updated power rankings for WWE Raw, following the August 13 episode.
