Kairi Sane Vs Aliyah
Result: Kairi Sane wins the anchor lock
Grade: C
Just days before she will take on Shayna Baszler for the NXT women’s title, Kairi Sane was out to make one final statement on this week’s NXT.
With Baszler watching the match from the commentary table, Sane applied a much more aggressive in-ring style here, and she made quick work of Aliyah, who did a perfectly fine job of making Sane look great.
I loved Sane staring at Baszler as she locked in the anchor, and the whole thing made the challenger look really dominant with only a few days to go until the big match.
Baszler has been booked as the big bad bully of the NXT women’s division since she arrived on the brand, and it’s great to see Sane being booked as her equal. The history between the two women means that their match at Takeover could be one of the strongest on the card.
Velveteen Dream and EC3 Segment
Velveteen Dream is out to a red-hot reception from the Full Sail crowd. Dream mocks the crowd and then begins to talk about EC3.
He sarcastically mocks EC3 and then steals a line from Django Unchained about first grabbing his curiosity, and then grabbing his attention.
EC3 makes his way to the ring and makes a Prince joke about the Dream. He then takes a dig at his ‘fanny pack’ and the crowd lap it up. They exchange back and forth before they break out into a fight and EC3 leaves Velveteen Dream laying in the middle of the ring.
Velveteen Dream and EC3 is probably the least interesting match on the card on Saturday night, so it’s a testament to these two men that they managed to make this segment so enjoyable. They are two of the most charismatic performers in all of NXT, and while their match feels fairly inconsequential, it will no doubt still be highly entertaining.
Aleister Black Mystery
We cut to Cathy Kelley, who is reporting from the parking lot where Aleister Black was attacked last week. She runs through the events of the night and then goes through several key suspects.
This was a really fun little segment and a great way to keep Aleister Black relevant despite his injury.
Hopefully, we get to see more of these over the coming weeks. I’d be pretty down for a wrestler adopting the role of detective and setting out on a mission to catch Black’s assailant.
