Tyler Bate Vs Roderick Strong
Result: Tyler Bate Wins with the Tyler Driver 97
Grade: B+
Tyler Bate and Roderick Strong locked up in this week’s main event, and needless to say, it was the best thing on the show.
Moustache Mountain and The Undisputed Era have been absolutely killing it over the last month, and there is no doubt that their match at Takeover: Brooklyn IV will steal the show, or at the very least, come a close second to Ciampa and Gargano.
Tyler and Strong were both on fine form on last night’s show in what was a fairly quick, but incredibly effective main-event.
Clearly keeping a little in the tank for Saturday, the two men put on a superbly paced match-up that showcased both men’s excellent in-ring work skills without giving too much away and also allowed Trent Severn and Kyle O’Reilly a brief bit of screen time as well.
Bate picked up the victory with the Tyler Driver and the show ended with Moustache Mountain standing tall, which almost guarantees their loss on Saturday night.
This was a perfect example of how to deliver a TV match that builds hype for an upcoming PPV match, without giving too much away. Good work all around, guys.
This was a solid episode of NXT, though, it was very strange to not have any sort of in-ring build for Tommaso Ciampa Vs Johnny Gargano, or Adam Cole Vs Ricochet. The video packages did a good enough job, but it would have been nice to see some sort of actual interaction before Takeover. Regardless, the rest of the matches did an excellent job at building hype for what should be another incredible Takeover this Saturday night.
