Raw Women’s Championship Match
Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Ronda Rousey
Bryan Heaton: Remember the old slogan for the then-WWF: “Anything can happen in the World Wrestling Federation!” In this case, “anything” is a UFC fighter joining WWE, becoming better than anyone could imagine, and winning the Raw Women’s Championship in her fourth match. It’s a pretty impressive rise to the top, but think of what that opens up for Rousey moving forward.
Christopher Jeter: I’ll pick Rousey to win decisively with an armbar in a brief but entertaining affair. I, along with many others, was pleasantly surprised by Rousey’s performance against Nia Jax at Money in the Bank. This one, however, should be quick. Bliss simply doesn’t have the in-ring credibility to hold her own with Rousey, at least from a storyline standpoint. I do think we’ll see the spot where Bliss bends her arm back to feign a broken arm, so that’ll be something.
Trace Johnson: Bliss has felt like a transitional champion ever since winning the gold at Money In The Bank, so Rousey needs to and should get the win here to capture her first Raw Women’s Championship.
Ashley Leckwold: I have never not looked forward to a women’s match as much as I’m not looking forward to this one. I fully expect that Ronda will be treated as the new shiny toy and get the title put on her, but not before she nearly ends Alexa’s career by trying to break her arm instead of wrestle her. But hey, at least Alexa will take a bump if that is the case.
Joe Soriano: I don’t think it’s a “foregone conclusion”, as Alexa Bliss so snootily pointed out on the go-home episode of Monday Night Raw, that Ronda Rousey will grab a “W” here. But if Rousey doesn’t win, like, what are we doing? Is she just going to win at Hell in a Cell or on a random episode of Raw? I mean, SummerSlam is the place to do it, and Bliss is the best heel to beat for the title.
