Finn Bálor vs. Constable Baron Corbin

Result: Finn Bálor defeated Constable Baron Corbin via pinfall

Rating: 2.0 out of 5 stars

Well well well, what do we have here? Finn Bálor broke out The Demon with exactly zero announcement, and, really, for no reason whatsoever. But SummerSlam has always been a time for Bálor to bust out his alter ego — to defeat Seth Rollins for the inaugural Universal Championship in 2016, and to beat Bray Wyatt in 2017.

In fairness, though, The Demon is a great piece of showmanship, and Corbin sold it to perfection. He was legit terrified of Bálor, and it permeated the entire match. And the match was, surprisingly, quick — Finn took care of business right away, sustaining next to no damage in the process.

My only criticism was commentary, mainly Jonathan Coachman. Michael Cole yelling “THE DEMON COMETH” was absurd, but I know that’s getting yelled in his ear. Coach, though, put The Demon over as unbeatable, then uttered the phrase that was kind of understood, but never said aloud:

“I just don’t know why he doesn’t do this more often.”

It’s a great point, but there’s no good answer. If The Demon is so unstoppable, why wouldn’t Bálor use him every match? And since he doesn’t, why not? Is there a reason? Coach, being a blithering idiot, basically blew up the spot, because now everyone is always going to question why there’s no Demon.

Anyway, said Demon looked extra terrifying tonight, and eliminated the Constable in short order. And Bálor as his alter ego is never not good, so I’ll allow it.
