Take Two

The absolute worst part of SummerSlam was the Elias segment. It was very clearly intermission filler, but everyone — Elias included — would have been better served with an actual intermission, complete with an empty ring and dead silence.

Elias acknowledged his anger issues, but rather than perform his much hyped “greatest song,” he was interrupted by

the newest NXT call-up

Curt Hawkins. Wait, what?

Yes, local boy Curt Hawkins came down to offer Elias a chance to be the “one” in 1-218. Elias refuses, and calls Hawkins a loser, but Curt won’t give up. Out comes a referee, and we’re on!

Elias vs. Curt Hawkins

Result: Elias defeated Curt Hawkins via pinfall

Rating: 1.0 out of 5 stars

Man, when Curt Hawkins finally wins a match, the crowd is going to go nuts. It’ll be like when Anthony Young of Hawkins’s beloved New York Mets finally ended his year-long, 27 decision losing streak in July 1993 — it was like a playoff celebration for a lousy Mets team in the middle of the season.

Hawkins came close a few times with surprise rollups, but tonight was not the night. Drift Away by Elias ended things, and Hawkins goes to 0-219. I want to give a shoutout to Corey Graves, who astutely pointed out that anyone who’s upset at Elias “hijacking” the show every week should just shut up and let him play his song, and he’ll probably stop.
