3. Kevin Owens

Other than Brock’s reign, Kevin Owens’s championship run might be the closest we ever got to an actual Universal Championship reign.

After the title was vacated following Finn Balor’s injury, a Fatal Four Way was held between Owens, Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, and Big Cass on the August 29th, 2016 edition of Monday Night Raw. Thanks to some assistance from Triple H, Raw became the Kevin Owens Show.

Owens spent most of his reign feuding with Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns, and more often than not, Owens had entertaining matches with both men. The feuds themselves were entertaining as well, especially with Chris Jericho in the role of Owens’s best friend/lackey who often helped Owens retain his title.

Speaking of Jericho, the moment the pair of Jeri-KO broke up, Y2J caused a distraction in the main event of Fastlane to give Goldberg enough time to win the title from him. The same man who kept the title in Owens hands wound up being the man to cost him the belt. Kinda poetic when you think about it.

Looking back in retrospect, Owens had a pretty good run, but was it better than Brock’s? Match wise, definitely, but honestly, if you were to ask us which had the more memorable reign storywise, we’d say Brock. Even if you hated Brock’s reign, you remember why you hated it. Owens had the occasional great segment/promo–the Festival of Friendship is a prime example–but story wise, the highlights are few and far between.
