1. Brock Lesnar

And now, we’re back to Brock. Let’s start with the obvious negatives of his reign.

In 504 days, Brock only defended the belt on television seven times in total, including SummerSlam 2018 where he lost it to Roman Reigns. He seldom appeared on tv and it noticeably hurt the television product to not have a prize to chase on the main Raw shows. As a fan, it was frustrating not to have a World Champion on Raw.

Okay, now the positives.

Whenever Brock decided to show up, he would deliver quality entertainment. As a character, Brock exhibited a raw believability and levels of charisma that’s missing from most of the WWE roster. He exuded a personality that made you want to hate him, if you didn’t already hate him for hardly showing up. And since WWE knew how to turn lemons into lemonade, they turned Brock’s absence into a dramatic story worth getting invested in.

As an in-ring competitor, he more often than not had great matches. His last two SummerSlam matches were wholly entertaining main events, his trilogy of title defenses against Roman Reigns were fun to witness, and his Great Balls of Fire match against Samoa Joe was a nail biter.

In retrospect, looking at the four Universal Championship reigns that we’ve had, the only real contenders for “worst Universal Champion ever” are Finn Balor and Goldberg. Brock wasn’t a great champion, but he wasn’t terrible. His reign actually had some highlights.

Now, hopefully, Reigns’s run is even better.
