5. Asuka vs Nikki Cross – NXT TV 6-28-2017
NXT has always been ahead of the curb when it comes to innovating the WWE women’s division. The way that women have been booked down there ever since the show’s 2012 rebranding helped kick off the Women’s Revolution on the main roster in many ways.
Female superstars have not only outshined the male superstars on several occasions, but they have received several “firsts” happen on the yellow brand over the last couple years: The first women’s ppv main event, the first Iron Man match between two women, and last year, the first Last Woman Standing match.
The then-undefeated Asuka defended her title against Sanity’s deranged maiden, Nikki Cross. As the first match of its kind between two women, all eyes were on these competitors on this night, and they made the most of their time. Steel chairs, trash cans, ladders, and even the title belt were weapons of choice for these superstars as they battled all over the arena.
It made for a thrilling match up that came to an even more thrilling conclusion when Asuka superplexed Cross off of a ladder, and through the announce table. Asuka then narrowly made it to her feet to declare herself the Last Woman Standing.
