Bobby Roode vs. Mojo Rawley

We saw Mojo Rawley come out as Bobby Roode’s United States Championship Open Challenge opponent at the Royal Rumble, and it’s easy to forget that Roode was once United States Champion this year with the way he’s been portrayed on Raw these past few months.

That match between Roode and Rawley at the Rumble was terrible, as Roode and Rawley simply didn’t have any chemistry. They messed up the finish to the match, and the crowd clearly wasn’t interested in watching this bout.

Since then, Rawley has improved in the ring, as his Intercontinental Championship Open Challenge match with Seth Rollins this year was probably the best match of Rawley’s young WWE career. Rawley does a great job as a callous heel, constantly challenging and calling out opponents, pushing them to do better. He had a bone to pick with No Way Jose, who clearly felt Rawley’s wrath.

Roode would assuredly win this match, unless if WWE really wants to go back to Roode’s losing streak and tease a heel turn. They did this with Roode earlier this summer, but nothing has come from it. One of the problems is that Roode is so dead-in-the-water as a babyface that everyone wants him to turn heel to the point where they are practically begging for it. Then again, perhaps they’ve been begging so long that they’ve simply stopped caring altogether. If the latter is the case, then that actually bodes well for Roode.

Prediction: Bobby Roode
