Taya Valkyrie is Bringing Lucha Royalty to MLW War Games
Taya Valkyrie has blazed a path across North America for the past seven years and now looks to make her mark in Major League Wrestling. On September 6 at War Games, Taya will team with Joey Ryan as he looks to exact revenge against MLW World Middleweight Champion MJF and his new love interest Aria Blake.
MJF has made life miserable for Joeys in MLW for the past several months. At Battle Riot in July, Friedman came away with a victory over “The King of Sleaze” Joey Ryan to become the first-ever MLW World Middleweight Champion.
MJF would go on to run down the veterans of the sport and those who came before him by proclaiming that their time was up as he would usher in the age of “talent over tenure.” MJF’s victory wouldn’t be without its own shreds of controversy, though – with the referee distracted in the final moments of the match, Friedman would poke Ryan in the eyes before delivering a package shoulder breaker for the win.
Friedman’s war on Joeys would continue as weeks later he would not only successfully defend his title against Joey Janela. MJF would walk away with more than the MLW World Middleweight Title, though, as Aria Blake would turn on Janela to align with Friedman to give him the victory. As the new power couple of MLW begins to seize their power, they find themselves with a roadblock ahead of them in Fort Lauderdale.

Perhaps knowing that Blake would be an issue if a singles rematch took place, Ryan has recruited Taya Valkyrie to even the odds. If Ryan and Taya are able to come away with a victory then an MLW World Middleweight Title rematch would certainly have to be on the horizon for Ryan. For Taya, though, this is an opportunity to bring her brand of lucha libre to a whole new audience.
The match is billed as a mixed tag which typically means the men fight the men and the women fight the women, though Taya has shown that she has no qualms with mixing it up with wrestlers of any gender in the ring.
She has perhaps come into notoriety for most American fans through Lucha Underground where she has competed against the likes of Brian Cage, Pentagon Jr, Ivelisse and Sexy Star. For Taya, all that matters is continuing to establish her legacy as the top Luchadora in the world.
With the addition of this tag team match, War Games continues to build itself as a super card for MLW. In addition to the anticipated debut of Taya Valkyrie as she teams with Joey Ryan to take on MJF and Aria Blake, we’ll also see Low Ki defend the MLW World Heavyweight Title against Rey Fenix, LA Park and Pentagon Jr in a Mexican Massacre Match.
The unhuman PCO faces off with Brody King, and, of course, the two-team match beyond as Shane Strickland leads his army into battle against Sami Callihan’s monster squad.
MLW War Games is live from Fort Lauderdale on September 6 and will be filmed for MLW Fusion on beIN and YouTube!
