Coming off of a loss to The Hart Foundation last week, ACH and Rich Swann look to rebound in the biggest way possible – by defeating Lucha Bros for the MLW World Tag Team Titles.

Sami Callihan provides some pre-taped comments before the main event decrying Tommy Dreamer for siding with Shane Strickland in their conflict. Dreamer, who Callihan notes helped him in the business, is put on blast by “The Worldwide Desperado” for his attack last week. Fulton stands in the background bearing the wounds of Dreamer’s kendo stick attack and tells Sami that Dreamer belongs to him when they step into War Games.

The final member of Callihan’s monster squad, Abyss, provides his own insights on the impending clash between the two teams. Abyss brings an entirely new dynamic to the Callihan’s team matched only by Jimmy Havoc. “The Monster” promises that MLW is about to be hit with a tidal wave in the form of his six-foot-eight, near 400-pound frame.

MLW World Tag Team Titles: Lucha Bros vs ACH & Rich Swann

I don’t know if there is any single team more enjoyable to watch in all of professional wrestling than the Lucha Bros. I don’t say that to discredit any other teams who are consistently pumping out classic matches month after month, but something about the Lucha Bros is truly mystifying.

For me, Pentagon and Fenix harken back to mid-nineties era ECW when Rey Mysterio Jr, Psicosis and Juventud Guerrera burst onto the US scene. The duo perhaps gained notoriety in the US after stealing shows week after week in Lucha Underground, though their history runs far beyond that series. It feels as though we are in another age of lucha libre taking center stage in North America and these two are a huge reason for it.

ACH and Swann looked good here and much better as a tandem than they did in their previous match with The Hart Foundation. The pair is doing a bit of an odd couple gimmick with ACH not being on the same energy level as Swann as he dances and shimmies to the ring. Once the bell sounds, though, the two are much more in sync.

Lucha Bros were in danger of losing the titles here several times with ACH and Swann catching them off-guard throughout the contest. The whole match broke down into a tornado tag at a certain point with the referee losing full control. In the end, it was Pentagon and Fenix retaining the titles with a spike package piledriver on Swann.

I wouldn’t have been fully surprised here if Pentagon and Fenix dropped the titles to ACH and Swann here. With Fenix heading into an MLW World Heavyweight Title match with Low Ki and Pentagon meeting LA Park in a Mexican Massacre Match at War Games, it would not have been out of the realm of possibility to see another team step into the spotlight.

At this point, though, who else is left on the MLW roster who can step up to Lucha Bros? The Dirty Blondes aren’t on that level quite yet and are too embroiled in the feud with Team Filthy to focus on the titles just yet.

Coming out of War Games, some combination of Strickland, Brazil and Hughes could make a run for the gold with the door also open for The Hart Foundation to Freebird the titles. The future may be uncertain as far as challengers for the MLW World Tag Team Titles, but what we know for sure is that Pentagon and Fenix are prepared to stand on top of the mountain for as long as they see fit.
