Time has a funny way of latching itself to each of us. When some major incident happens in your life at a very specific time period, you can find yourself in the sweet embrace of arrested development. Teddy Hart’s pants are embracing him a little too tightly.

Perhaps the easiest indicator of having fallen victim to some kind of timeline hiccup is Hart’s ring gear. In the early 2000s there was a very specific type of gear that personified the flippy, indie guys of the era. A classic article of clothing that some are still unable to let go of. I’m speaking, of course, of the indie wrestler trash bag pants.

These aren’t pants that look like trash but, rather, look like they’re made from trash bags. They’re somehow loose but structured at the same time with wide legs and an unmistakable sheen. Some of your favorites (and mine!) have worn and still wear these pants – wrestlers like Tajiri, Mike Quackenbush and Chris Hero.

Now, let’s not kid ourselves about fashion in professional wrestling. Fashion has never been a big part of the sport, for better or worse (it’s worse), and it often finds itself behind the eight ball with trends and styles in general. The important thing to do, though, is to observe the world around you and grow with it as you grow as a human being.

Looking at Teddy Hart and his ultra glossy gear which could blind dozens if the sunlight glared off of it just right, one can’t help but think that he’s still working with that early-2000s “fashion” mindset. He’s just one puka shell necklace or stainless steel ball choker away from solidifying himself as the Undisputed King of 2002.
