Overview of NJPW DESTRUCTION 2018 Tour’s Biggest Matches
It’s that time of the year in NJPW when everything settles down and the slow, steady build to Wrestle Kingdom begins. The G1 has just finished up, leaving a surplus of unfinished stories that will continue on the DESTRUCTION Tour. Huge matches have been announced for three pivotal shows as the road to the Tokyo Dome begins to take shape…
The Road to DESTRUCTION will begin September 5th, leading up to the tour’s first main show, DESTRUCTION in HIROSHIMA, on September 15th.
This event is scheduled to take place in the Hiroshima Sun Plaza Hall at 5 am EDT.
It will feature a handful of multi-man tags including Naito, EVIL, SANADA, & Bushi vs Suzuki, Sabre Jr, TAKA Michinoku, & Desperado, and Tanahashi, Makabe, & Honma vs Okada, White, and Yoshi-Hashi. Additionally, Tonga, Loa, & Ishimori are set to defend the NEVER 6 Man Tag Team Championships against Robinson, Finlay, & Taguchi. Finally, the IWGP Heavyweight Championship will be defended in a huge match between rivals Kenny Omega and Tomohiro Ishii.
DESTRUCTION in HIROSHIMA ‘s card is certainly a bit top heavy, with the only truly noteworthy match being the main event. Though, what a main event it is sure to be. The Best Bout Machine and The Stone Pitbull are easily two of the greatest wrestlers working today, and they’ve already built a rivalry of epic proportions over the last couple years. The latest chapter is can’t miss.
Next, the tour will continue to Beppu’s B-Con Plaza for DESTRUCTION in BEPPU on September 17th at 5 am EDT. The show’s card includes two important singles matches: Hirooki Goto vs Taichi for the NEVER Openweight Championship and Tetsuya Naito vs Minoru Suzuki in a grudge match.

Goto will be looking to come out of the G1 swinging, while Taichi wants to prove himself and make a statement after being left out of the prestigious tournament altogether.
Then, as their focus begins to shift to January 4th, Naito and Suzuki will try to bounce back from their disappointing contest earlier in the year.
Finally, the tour will culminate with DESTRUCTION in KOBE in Kobe World Hall on September 23rd at 3 am EDT. It will mark the beginning of a tournament to crown the new IWGP Jr Heavyweight Champion with a match between Bushi and Kushida.
Also, this show will serve as the setting for one of the company’s biggest matches of 2018: Hiroshi Tanahashi vs Kazuchika Okada for the G1 Tokyo Dome Main Event Contract.

Kushida and Bushi should have a fun match, but it’s really all about The Ace vs The Rainmaker or the Balloonmaker or whatever he is now… the 13th chapter of the greatest rivalry in New Japan history for a spot in Wrestle Kingdom’s main event. It really doesn’t get much better than that.
Can Ishii derail Omega’s path to the Dome? Will there be new developments in the inner faction turmoil of Bullet Club and/or Chaos? Can Okada defeat the reinvigorated Ace or will Wrestle Kingdom 13’s IWGP Heavyweight Championship match be the first without Okada since Wrestle Kingdom 6? NJPW’s DESTRUCTION Tour will answer these questions and more across a handful of shows that should keep fans entertained throughout September.
