2. A record breaking reign
Prior to relinquishing the Universal Championship to Roman Reigns at SummerSlam, Brock Lesnar accumulated the longest modern day reign as a world champion in WWE. His 508-day run replaced the previous record set by CM Punk in an attempt by the company to “clean up” their record books.
With Lesnar currently persona non-grata amongst WWE fans after holding the red belt hostage for so long, there could be an argument for his own record to be broken. Styles has held the WWE Championship for nearly 300 days and will surpass one year as champion at the beginning of November. Holding the title for this length of time will ensure he becomes only the eighth man in history to hold the belt for a year or longer and would secure his legend within the company.
Breaking the record set by Lesnar would require Styles to hold the title until WrestleMania 35. This could be a tantalising prospect for the company, especially with how over Styles has become in his short time with WWE. A top tier match at ‘Mania would be more than deserved after the impact Styles has made.
While it seems that Styles may be set to break the 365-day mark as champion, his reign may be cut short prior to next years showpiece event as he makes way for the conclusion of one of the biggest ongoing storyline in WWE history.
