WWE Evolution: Fantasy-Booking Match Card 2.0

Charlotte (c) vs. Asuka II
Here’s the deal. Since losing to Charlotte Flair at Wrestlemania, Asuka has seemingly faded into obscurity. While part of that is due to WWE’s desire to use Asuka as a special attraction, it’s still hard to process how seldom she’s been featured. She did pop her head up in a brief backstage interview after the announcement forWWE Evolution, where she hyped the historic show. Her quest for redemption would make for a great storyline, and the bout could easily headline the PPV.
Their first meeting, back in April, if they had started promoting it earlier, could have been the first ever women’s match to main event the show of shows. The rematch doesn’t need all that much build to go on last. The Empress of Tomorrow needs this win to get back on track. There was a time in NXT, where she was so desperate to keep her undefeated streak, that she had no problem winning by any means necessary. Her stock has dropped tremendously since suffering her first defeat, so anticipate a similar degree of desperation here.
While it’d be touching for this show ended with confetti and hugs, that doesn’t mean it should. With so many eyes on this show, WWE has a real opportunity to turn some casual viewers into full-fledged fans. How? Enter Becky Lynch. Much like Asuka, Charlotte put a stop to her momentum and took the Women’s Championship from right underneath her. If Asuka stoops to a level of desperation so low, that she enlists help from the first Smackdown Women’s Champion to put down the Queen, it would be huge.

It adds fuel to the “straight fire” that this feud could become. The rivalry becomes less about the championship and more about Lynch’s resentment of the second generation star. At the same time, it opens the door for more women to compete for SD Live’s top prize. Besides, if WWE is currently setting the table for Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair at Wrestlemania 35, it’d be counter-productive to have that be an undisputed championship match.
