All In Wrestling 2018: 10 Performers Who Stood Out
Marty Scurll
I have to say that Marty Scurll is quietly having an excellent year, and while the highlight of his 2018 is surely his match against Will Ospreay, this man has been entertaining crowds in just about every match he’s been involved in. One of the glue guys of “The Elite”, Scurll had a huge test at All In against Kazuchika Okada, who remains the best wrestler in the world in my eyes.
Yes, Okada has put together better matches, but his bout with Scurll was solid and told a great story. It was about Scurll doing everything possible to earn the respect of the fans, of his fellow wrestlers, and of Okada. Scurll has been desperate to prove that he’s a heavyweight, going as far as to joke that he weighs over 300 pounds.
It looks like the donuts have helped. Because while Scurll was unable to score a victory over Okada, he tested the “Rainmaker”, showing off his arrogance and style in the process. By the time Okada hit Scurll with two Rainmakers for the victory, the audience understood that this was a “coming of age” moment for Scurll in his career. Those two Rainmakers weren’t just about an angry Okada sticking it to Scurll, who had spit in his face just moments earlier.
No, those two Rainmakers were a sign of respect for Scurll, because Okada knew he might need that second one to put Scurll away for good.
