Hell In A Cell 2018: Ranking WWE’s Top 5 Rivalries Heading Into PPV
AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe
The WWE Championship hasn’t main evented a Pay Per View in ages, and that’s unlikely to change when AJ Styles takes on Samoa Joe, since Braun Strowman vs. Roman Reigns for the Universal Title inside the cell is also on this match card.
However, Styles vs. Joe should also be inside Hell in a Cell, because this is the most personal feud on the card. That’s saying something, because the show also includes Miz vs. Bryan and one man literally trying to erase the identity of another man (going as far to wash away his face paint with water or trying to rip his ear out).
Joe is after Styles’s family. He’s been harassing Styles’s wife, he’s been sending pointed statements at his daughter, and he’s been verbally and mentally abusing the WWE Champion. These two have years of history together dating back to TNA, and Joe isn’t letting Styles forget any of it.
To play mindgames with Styles, Joe is hammering home this idea that Styles needs to lose the WWE Championship so he can finally focus on being a half-assed father, instead of sacrificing his family for success in WWE. Styles hasn’t seemed phased yet, but I have a feeling he’s just doing a good job of hiding it.
This match was absolutely meant for Hell in a Cell, and while Joe could easily win this match, maybe Styles gives the Samoan Submission Machine what he deserves. Another huge ass-kicking.
Their match at SummerSlam was excellent, especially because of the DQ finish. That may seem paradoxical, but the fact that there was no definitive winner has made this likely HIAC match all the more exciting. Styles upped the ante by going after Joe with the steel chair, bashing Joe for tormenting his family during the middle of the match.
These two aren’t done by a long shot, and I’m anticipating some crazy moments on the upcoming two shows before the match takes place.
