1. R-Truth vs. The Miz

It felt like 2011 again last night when an unlikely superstar got in the main event of SmackDown against a former tag team partner.  The team of Awesome Truth had a nice run back in 2011 that even saw a marquee main event tag team match against John Cena and The Rock at Survivor Series 2011, but last night saw those two former partners square off.

R-Truth has been particularly entertaining lately by trying to get a match with Carmella, yes Carmella.  Truth is comedic gold even at this stage in his career, but as it turned out last night, it was all a ruse to get in the main event of SmackDown.  GM Paige forced The Miz to compete last night and after a funny interaction with Truth, the two were booked to face each other and Carmella would even be in Truth’s corner after she heard what Maryse said about her.

Practicing their pending mixed match challenge entrance, Truth and Carmella came out to the ring in typical Truth form with Carmella leading the “What’s Up?” chants.  But in terms of just the match with The Miz itself, it exceeded expectations given how it felt like a last-minute decision.  Truth looked great and Miz’s character shined facing someone like Truth in a match.

But when Daniel Bryan’s music hit, The Miz froze while trying to hit Truth with a skull-crushing finale.  That distraction was enough to get Truth the shocking upset win after a roll-up, but Miz and Maryse’s night wasn’t done when Bryan and Brie Bella attacked them after the match.  Andrade Cien Almas and Zelina Vega interfered looking for revenge from earlier in the night, but Bryan and Brie were able to stand tall throughout it all.

This was such an enjoyable treat to see R-Truth back in a prominent position again and seeing what he and Carmella can do together moving forward should be must-see TV.
