Big Show Talks About Moment John Cena Helped Motivate Him To Drop Weight

The Big Show has been a staple on WWE programming for over twenty years. Whilst his image has fluctuated over the years, Show is potentially in the shape of his career and it is, at least partly, down to one man.

When talking to CBS San Francisco earlier this week, Big Show revealed that John Cena was one of the biggest reasons he has massively reduced his weight over the past year to 18 months. He inititally spoke about when breaking into the business he felt that he had to be the biggest, the baddest- a giant. But as he became more well known and his career was cemented, he realised he didn’t have to be ‘that guy’ anymore:

"‘As my career started winding down, so to speak, I realized I didn’t need that any more. I didn’t need that to be successful, I needed to be lighter, I needed to be in better shape. And it was just a personal challenge.”"

He then revealed that, in a passing conversation with former WWE champion John Cena, that they were discussing the idea of a ‘giant with abs’. When Show blew it off as if no-one wanted to see it; Cena replied with ‘Yeah…who would want to see a giant with abs’ and then walked away. Big Show then explained how he viewed that as challenge and set about motivating himself to get to the stage we see him in now.

His diet was the biggest aspect of the change as, as we all know, Big Show underwent hip surgery in late September 2017. Due to this, he couldn’t do intense cardio that is often required to achieve the body type he now has. When discussing his diet he spoke about how he used food, like many do, as comfort. So when he was having a rough time, he would eat. The biggest challenge Show found was trying to find something else to comfort him and stick to the strict diet and goals he had set himself.

It is clear to see however that this has absolutely paid off. His most recent feud he was a part of, with Braun Strowman, put on some excellent matches with the culmination being slammed through a steel cage on Monday Night Raw and gave the fans some great memories that may have initially been tarnished by the lack of TV time the giant was getting.

It is still unclear if Big Show will be making a return to the ring but I for one am all for it and cannot wait to see what he does next.
