WWE: Who Will Curt Hawkins Beat to End His Losing Streak?
By Kyle Boris
8.) Would a Match Between the Two Be Interesting?
This section is one where we’re going to dive into a little more so we can really separate these final seven choices. Curt Hawkins’ losing streak has been a laughing matter at times throughout its course, but it’s not crazy to think it could become a serious storyline for this underdog. This streak could really start to get to his head and affect his livelihood. Of the seven remaining choices, which of these could you see WWE building a story around? I’m going to make the case for four of them, while tossing out three.
There’s an obvious connection between Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder. The two former Edgeheads were actually Tag Team Champions at one point and even have their own podcast now, The Major Wrestling Figure Podcast. They’re good friends and they’ve each had their share of ups and downs with the WWE. There’s a chance that their friendship could boil over, leading to a feud between the former buddies. It would only be fitting that Hawkins end his streak against his best friend in the business.
On the other side of things, maybe Hawkins can enlist Ryder to help him pick up that ever-important win. Ryder knows Hawkins better than anyone else, and he might know how to get him over the hump.
Perhaps, as Hawkins rekindles his friendship on RAW with his former partner, Ryder’s other old partner Mojo Rawley could get into the picture. Rawley has been aggressive of late and there’s no reason to think he wouldn’t next target his former teammate. This could lead to Hawkins having his buddy’s back. Maybe this would light the fire that Hawkins has needed.
The next contender is Constable Baron Corbin. The newly named acting general manager of RAW has made a slew of moves since taking over for Kurt Angle. Fans have every right to believe that Corbin might eventually want to get rid of some talent on the roster that he thinks is taking up space. Hawkins is a prime candidate for this as someone who hasn’t won a match in two years. A great story could see Hawkins putting his career on the line in a match against the general manager.
A few weeks ago on RAW, Hawkins had a somewhat competitive match with Elias. It was some of the best work we’ve seen from him and the crowd actually got behind him when they believed he actually had a chance at winning. It would be great to see video packages and interviews with Hawkins, as he trains and prepares for Elias, and Elias only. He should place all his focus and attention on one man, one match, one opportunity. It would give off the impression that he wants to win and he has hand-picked his opponent, as he puts all his marbles into one basket.
The Miz, Jinder Mahal and Dolph Ziggler are all fantastic heels and would surely garner heat from the audience, but they don’t have the connection that these other four superstars do.
