4. Charlotte Flair vs. Sonya Deville

Any time you win a championship, you’re usually the center of attention following that particular match, but in the case of Charlotte Flair winning the SmackDown Women’s Championship at SummerSlam, she was only the second biggest focal point following her championship triumph.

Becky Lynch turned heel following the match and over the past few weeks, she has made it a mission to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship at any cost, including her friendship with Charlotte.  The two are set for a big match at Hell In A Cell for the title, but last night was all about getting tuned up for that match when Charlotte battled Sonya Deville.

This match felt a little random, but it probably exceeded expectations to a degree with both women really impressing.  It didn’t go long enough to warrant a great match certification, but it was a solid match that did what it needed to do.  Deville looked impressive against one of the best women’s competitors of all-time, but it wouldn’t be enough and The Queen made Deville tap out to the Figure Eight.

Once Charlotte was celebrating ringside with some fans, however, Lynch attacked her from the front row of the crowd while she was dressed up as a fan.  This is just another example of Lynch’s animosity towards Charlotte, and that animosity should reach its apex at Hell In A Cell with the SmackDown Women’s Championship on the line between these two former best friends.

For a tuneup match, Charlotte vs. Deville was solid even if it didn’t get enough time to shine, and it was beneficial for both women.

Final Grade: B
