1. Reigns can’t chase the title again.

WWE simply can’t put their fans through this again. Well, technically, they can do whatever they want, but another lengthy Roman Reigns championship chase story would be ill-advised at this point.

Putting aside the fact that another Reigns title quest would have all the suspense of a Golden State Warriors championship run, WWE has gone to this well several times over the past few years, hoping that Reigns’ eventual coronation would coincide with an appreciative fanbase. For the most part, it hasn’t.

If Vince McMahon and the creative team truly view Reigns as the company flag bearer, then he needs to have a championship reign that’s representative of that status. He doesn’t need to hold the championship for three years or anything of that nature, but he definitely needs to eclipse his previous high of 77 days.

Once Reigns gets past Strowman, he can move on to face Lashley (who owns a pinfall victory over Reigns), Ambrose (whenever he turns heel), McIntyre, Ziggler, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn (when he returns), and even Jinder Mahal for the next year. That doesn’t even include the rumored match with The Rock at WrestleMania, NXT call-ups, and wrestlers that move from SmackDown next spring via the Superstar Shakeup. In terms of fresh, interesting opponents, Reigns has a full docket.

Once McMahon and the writers work their way through some of those bouts, they can cash in on an extended Reigns title run and put over a new top star for the future. Then, they could either turn Reigns heel (stop laughing) or have him undertake another babyface pursuit for the gold. Whatever they decide, it needs to happen after Reigns holds the gold for a while.
