NJPW Destruction in Hiroshima Results, Grades, and Analysis
Kenny Omega (c) (Bullet Club Elite) w/ Kota Ibushi vs. Tomohiro Ishii (CHAOS) – IWGP Heavyweight Championship
The match started a little slow, seeing Omega raking the eyes of Ishii in the early portions. Uncharacteristic of Omega to go after the eyes. After that, both men picked up the pace, and Omega tried to hit a few V-Triggers, and Ishii a few lariats, but neither man could get the advantage. Omega and Ishii started exchanging forearms, and Omega just grabbed him and hit a DDT.
Omega took advantage for the next few minutes, but Ishii countered Omega hitting the ropes with a big powerslam. Ishii started to hit his forearms and chops, but Omega countered and hit You Can’t Escape, but Ishii rolled out of the way of the moonsault portion of the move. Omega hit a hurricanrana and sent Ishii to the floor. Omega hit the Rise of the Terminator, and then the Kotaro Krusher.
Ishii didn’t take that for long though, and sent Omega to ringside with a lariat over the top rope. Both men started to exchange chops at ringside, and Omega told the announcers to move. Omega went for a moonsault off the guardrail, but Ishii caught him, and it looked like he was going to hit a One Winged Angel on Omega over the guardrail and through the table! Omega countered out, but Ishii still hit a vertical suplex on the floor.
Omega hit a baseball slide dropkick on Ishii, and then put Ishii on the English announce table. Omega climbed back in the ring and hit a springboard double stomp from the ring, over the guardrail, through the table on Ishii! The table largely stayed intact, but Omega and Ishii were not. Holy crap. Back in the ring, Omega hit the Aoi Shoudou, but Ishii somehow managed to get up and hit a Saito suplex.
Ishii went right back to chopping the crap out of Omega, while selling his chest due to the double stomp. Ishii stayed on top of Omega for the next few minutes, just destroying him with headbutts. Ishii hit a massive superplex on Omega, but Omega kicked out. Both men started exchanging German suplexes, but Omega countered the last one by landing on his feet and hitting a V-Trigger!
Both men started to exchange strikes again, but Omega hit a snap dragon suplex and another V-Trigger. Omega went for the One Winged Angel, but Ishii countered out. Omega hit the brainbuster, and Ishii kicked out. Omega hit a series of V-Triggers, sending Ishii to the mat. Omega hit another that left Ishii in the corner. Omega put Ishii on the top rope and went for a super snap dragon suplex, but Ishii fought it off.
Ishii ate a chop while on the top rope, and Omega went for a Jay Driller from the top rope! Ishii fought that off too. Omega hit a V-Trigger and went for the One Winged Angel from the second rope! Ishii fought it off again, and hit a flying hurricanrana off the top rope on Omega! Ishii killed Omega with a lariat, and then a headbutt! The crowd started going insane as Ishii pointed his finger at Omega, and then hit a V-Trigger of his own! Ishii killed him with another lariat, but Omega kicked out!
Omega stopped the brainbuster and hit a lariat of his own. Omega went for the One Winged Angel, but Ishii slipped out and went for a brainbuster! Omega countered and hit a reverse hurricanrana, driving Ishii headfirst into the mat! Both men start exchanging forearms as they stood up, and Ishii ended up missing an enziguri. Omega hit a snap dragon suplex, and a V-Trigger, but Ishii kicked out.
Kenny called for the One Winged Angel, but Ishii fought out. Omega threw him into the air, and caught him with a deadlift German suplex! Omega crushed Ishii with a V-Trigger, but Ishii stood up and hit a lariat! My goodness. Ishii hit a sliding lariat, but Omega kicked out. Ishii went for a lariat, but hit a V-Trigger. Ishii hit two lariats! Somehow, Omega hit an inverted piledriver, and Ishii kicked out!
Omega hit another V-Trigger so hard that Omega flew to the outside of the ring! Omega came back in and hit another, but Ishii kicked out at 1! Ishii ate another one, and hit an enziguri! Omega hit another one, and then the Jay Driller, but Ishii kicked out again! What is it going to take for him to beat Ishii? Omega hit another V-Trigger, and then finally hit the One Winged Angel for the pinfall victory. What a match. Ishii continues to be the MVP of NJPW, producing outstanding matches night in and night out, and Omega continues his very good title run.
